What does it mean to be prepared for the winter?
- It means to have food stored in case power goes out or the roads close and you can’t get out to buy food.
- It means you need to know how you will keep your family warm if the power goes out.
*Do you have enough wood stored to burn in your fireplace?
*Do you have coal chips stored to burn with wood to make more heat or replace wood?
*Do you have extra blankets stored?
*Do you have dutch ovens stored to cook warm food and heat water for hot drinks? - It means you plan your finances to cover extra expenses that are not planned for in a budget.
- It means that it would be a good idea to grow plants that can be used for food or spices, even for medicine.
*A greenhouse would be nice to have, even a very basic one. - Alternative power would be a good idea as well, such as solar panels and wind generation.
- Insulating windows and doors now to keep out the cold better would be a good idea as well.
There are a lot of other ideas that can help you prepare better for the cold winter months. I suggest you use this link to see what your winter forecast looks like and then make plans for how to prepare for the cold.
