A Special Message From Moms Against Hunger

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

A special message from:

Is your neighbor hungry?

THE FACTS: At least 1 out of 7 households have hunger issues. Food banks are overwhelmed. 49 million people are hungry, including at least 17 million children. Over the last few years, the number of people who don’t have enough to eat has steadily increased.

It may surprise you to learn that these statistics aren’t describing a far-away, third-world country; instead, they reveal a problem right here in the United States of America!

Receiving Nourishment

I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving, full of love and family, and plenty to eat. I know you are moving forward with your Christmas planning. You have many decisions to make about gifts, and decorations, and festivities, and of course, your end-of-the-year giving.

As you prepare for Christmas, please be aware that right here in America, we have a hunger crisis!

Will you help me feed the suffering here in America? It will only take a few minutes! Moms Against Hunger is partnering with Ruby’s Pantry to send thousands of pounds of food each week to hungry families in rural America. Can we count on your support? DONATE NOW!

Look at your monthly budget. FOR LESS THAN $5 A DAY, YOU CAN FEED A FAMILY OF FOUR FOR A WHOLE WEEK! The hunger crisis is happening in the suburbs, inner cities, affluent communities and working class neighborhoods. Millions of Americans are either low on food, or unable to consistently secure food. The current economic climate makes this crisis likely to continue for quite a while.

I can’t fathom that there are over 17 million children in America without enough to eat, can you?

The latest facts about hunger in the United States are startling:

  • The number of U.S. households that reported getting emergency food from a food pantry almost doubled between 2007 and 2009
  • The 14.7 percent of households without food security at some time in 2009 was the highest since data-keeping on the subject began in 1995
  • More than 50 million people live in households uncertain of having or getting enough food at some point because of insufficient money or other material resources

A little extra out of your wallet—$35, $70, $140 or more—won’t ruin your Christmas celebration, and it will make a huge impact on theirs. What will you sacrifice so you can help them? A gourmet cup of coffee per day? A few Christmas ornaments? An extra batch of homemade cookies? We can’t allow the suffering to continue. You can make sure a hungry American gets some warm, nutritious meals. DONATE NOW—it will just take a few minutes!

And isn’t GIVING what Christmas is all about?

Feeding Hungry Families

This past weekend, we gave food to needy families in Cumberland, Wisconsin. It was cold, and there was snow on the ground, but there was plenty of warmth in our hearts.

As each box of food was carried away by a family in need, I smiled, knowing that for the moment, a mother, or a father, or a child, would go to bed with the nutrition they need, and they will wake up in the morning able to have a nice breakfast.

We’ve helped many families, and I can tell you what a wonderful feeling it is to provide food for people and go to bed knowing I’ve made a critical difference in someone’s life!

It’s certainly what the Lord expects of us.

Deuteronomy 15:7 reads, “If there is a poor man among you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks.”

In this magical season of light and love, will you freely open your hand to your brother in need? Donating will only take a second of your time and will make sure no hungry American goes one more second without food. DONATE HERE!

The Faces of Hope

For many families in the United States this year, decking the halls, choosing that perfect present and sitting down to a Christmas feast is impossible. They just want to eat something to keep them alive. Will you please take a couple of minutes to give them the gift of sustenance?

Isaiah 58:10 tells us “if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness.”

I know you want to be part of giving food to a human being who is hungry. As a mother, I can’t conceive of the anguish a parent must feel when they see their beloved son or daughter go hungry, and to then be helpless to do anything about it. Many families have fallen on tough times, and children are suffering. It’s our time to step up and help them. For we never know, one day we may need someone to come to our aid, as well.

Please find it in your heart to put food on a hungry child’s table. It is our humanitarian duty to take care of these Americans, from all walks of life, who have fallen on hard times. DONATE NOW! Men, women and children should not be hungry in America. Your kind donation will be such a blessing in their lives. Can I count on you?

It’s especially hard on the children! Children who are hungry don’t have the energy to play, they do poorly in school and they live in a constant state of anxiety wondering when they will eat again, or if they even will.

I gave birth to my child amidst a civil war in an African nation, so I can relate to the needs of families in desperate and difficult situations. I never thought I’d see such a desperate situation such as this taking place in the United States, but now it is… Yet we have the resources to give relief!

Will you feed those in need this Christmas season? We may not be able to do anything about America’s economic situation, but we can make sure those who are severely affected have enough food to eat while they get back on their feet! DONATE NOW!

A Blessed Gift

MOMS AGAINST HUNGER works to provide aid to those who will die without food around the world. We’ve done so many wonderful things with the help of supporters like you. I know our relationship with Ruby’s Pantry is going to impact the lives of even more individuals who need food, right here in America, right now at Christmastime.

As you prepare your Christmas celebration, please remember the little boys and girls right here in America who can’t even dream about receiving a new toy or a stuffed animal from Santa. How can they expect even the smallest gift, when their basic needs aren’t even being met? They would be happy to have just a piece of bread, or a small glass of milk—any kind of nutrition to stop their hunger for a brief moment and allow them to focus on child-like things.

Will you help them? Please?

DONATE NOW and feed a hungry family!

God bless you!

With Love,

Dr. Gayla Holley

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”

Remember our store and that you can build up your food storage to feed your family or share with others in a economic melt-down.

Our country is in a fix right now and on the verge of collapse. That’s no me speaking, it’s what many of those in the media are predicting.

Europe is on shaking ground and so is the United States. If they can’t fix it, the only option left is a collapse. With that will be wide spread hunger and you could easily be included in that prediction.

Food Shortages Are Possible Nowadays

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Use this link to order heirloom seeds, which means they are NOT hybrid. Hybrid seeds will not reproduce so they cannot be saved and planted the next year. Our seeds are non-hybrid seeds so they can be planted, harvested, and saved, and then planted in subsequent years. http://ourdayshopping.mybigcommerce.com/products/Emergency-Seed-Bank.html

btn_addandproceed.gif

With the way the economy is going and food shortages becoming a problem all over the world, along with Congress’ great idea of controlling farming and selling produce, it is a good idea to have seeds in storage for an emergency.

The following unexpected conditions or events affect food harvest and supply, delivery costs, and rise in prices:

  • Natural disasters
    • hurricanes
    • floods
    • earthquakes
    • volcano eruptions
  • Trucking strikes
  • Hoarding food and cleaning out store shelves
  • Fuel shortages
  • Economic downturn
  • Loss of income for a variety of reasons
    • unemployment,
    • illness,
    • accident,
    • disability

With these situations, you’ve got a food problem. One of our goals is to help people prepare for these situations by storing food or growing food in their own back yard, on their apartment deck or patio, or in any nook and cranny they find (perhaps in a laundry room, garage, or storage unit). http://ourdayshopping.mybigcommerce.com/products/Emergency-Seed-Bank.html

btn_addandproceed.gif

Taking care of family is your most important obligation, above anything else, and that means providing them food and shelter. One way you can fulfill that duty is to start a storage program for emergencies like I’ve just described.

Not only should you plant seeds, but you may need an economical greenhouse to grow them as well. We have greenhouses that are under $100 and some under $500 so you don’t have to spend a lot of money to prepare right now. http://ourdayshopping.mybigcommerce.com/products/Emergency-Seed-Bank.html

Storing food is not the only thing you need to do, you need emergency supplies as well, so check out our store to see what else you might need. We have books, emergency kits, gas masks and other ( terrorism response supplies (such as iodine tablets for radiation poisoning), freeze-dried or dehydrated foods (such a peanut butter, cheese, fruits, and meats), two-way radios, and other emergency supplies.

We will be happy to hear from you and about your experiences.

Let me just say that the reason we started this store is our desire to help people recognize the situation we are in right now as a nation and give them an opportunity to get what they need to meet the challenges we face in the near future.

Food Shortage Is Possible Nowadays

Why Shortage in Food Supply?

For decades, government and religious organizations have urged people to prepare themselves for hard times by storing extra food and water. With recent disasters and tough economic times, it’s easy to see the importance of doing something different than we have in the past.

We are becoming more aware nowadays that, without warning, any of us may face a life storm. We may not be able to control our situations and what happens to us, but we can prepare ourselves to weather the rainy days ahead that are sure to come.

Just by paying attention to what we hear on the news, we can see a need for storing food and water. In a crisis, as in New York City on 9/11/2001 and more so in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, store shelves can empty quickly and trucks may not get in for awhile to restock. Trucker strikes can happen as well and so truckers will not deliver food to the stores. Also, can you handle trucks being delayed because of bad weather or disaster conditions (such as we saw with Haiti and South America’s earthquakes, and Iceland’s volcano or what would happen with any volcanic eruption in the future) and so store shelves will become low or empty?

It only makes sense to store food and water in the uncertain times we live in now. OurDayShopping.com is here to help you do that and to plan for future emergencies.

The Blessings Of Our Times

Please click on the link below and read how you can make wise financial management choices during these difficult economic times.

Although this may be an old news story, the information is still very applicable today.

I rediscovered this story when I was going through some old saved emails and thought you might appreciate this article.

http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/news-releases-stories/wise-financial-management-during-tough-economic-times

Yes, we live in hard times with speculation suggesting that things will become much worse.  We cannot fret and worry about it, nothing good will come from it. Instead, we must do the best we can to prepare so we will respond appropriately to a situation. We respond best when we understand the problems we face, determine how we can meet the conditions we face, and come up with plans to deal with whatever we face now and in the future.

No one will come through the days ahead unscathed by the difficulties! However, the better we understand the challenges expected and prepare the best we can, the better we will be able to handle whatever we might face. This will definately be a blessing to us and our families.

Please, do not try to face your trials alone; there is no good reason for it.  We all should have the type of friends in our associations that see things from our perspective and will work with us in making wise plans.

We should be able to plan and pool together our knowledge, skills, and resources in order to face our trials . For example: My husband has collected several dutch ovens and a supply of charcoals. We have a friend or family member who has food items, so we cook their food in our ovens and share the meal. More and more frequently, out of necessity, we will see this sort of cooperation taking place!

We all have knowledge, talents, skills, and resources that we can share if we have a mindset to do so.  Speak with your close family members and friends and see what you and they have that can be pooled during these times. This is how our pioneers were able to get through hard times during the days of the Old Wild West and other times in history?  It is healthy for society when people to combine what they have and share it with someone in need.

Have you thought about what you have to share with those you trust and what they have to share with you as well? If you have not thought about it before, perhaps you will now.  As I said before, there is no need to face trials alone. We were created to need each other and have talents and gifts given to us by our creator to share with people to make their lives better. If we do not use them for this purpose, we may lose them. Life will feel unsatisfying and we will not feel content in the live we live. Remember this when you see an opportunity to help someone who needs what you have and make the choice to help.

I would love to hear your stories and how you or your ancestors made it through difficult times by combining their resources.

My love and prayers are with you as you make plans for handling the recession and/or your personal crisis.

Collapse And Prosper!

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

I just had to share this article with you. It came to me in an email from Mike Dillard, who is a very successful entrepreneur. I admire this man and I respect his advice.

I hope you benefit from this email I’ve reposted for you and glean important information from it to help you deal with our unstable times.  The information I report is for you to glean information so you can make decisions about your future.  I make no money off the sale of these books and they do not appear in our store.  You take the information for what it is worth to you and do with it what you wish.

We all know that we live in difficult times and that the times ahead could possibly become worse. If we have prepared the best we can, we can hope to get through it all with little pain. The more we understand the better we can approach the situation is the way I see it.

Mike Dillard reports the following!

This Journey Began Two Years Ago, (and has been quite profitable), Thanks To The Following…

1: Robert Kiyosaki’s book, “Rich Dad’s Prophecy“. Written in 2002 (!!!), Robert basically called the collapse of 2008, six years before they happened. prophecy

This book will give you an excellent bird’s-eye-view of what’s happened, why it happened, and what’s still to come. (And yes, there’s still much ahead in the coming years). This is the book that “woke me up” to what was about to happen, and spurred me into massive action.

2: My good friend and financial mentor, Kip Herriage from the www.VRALetter.com. Kip’s stock portfolio has finished up 100%+ annually for the last 8 years, which is insane. The guy is ridiculously good when it comes to the market, and calling critical market changes days before they happen.

3: Through Kip and Robert, I became very good friends with Michael Maloney, author of Rich Dad’s “Guide to Investing In Gold and Silver

goldsilverMichael’s book came out about two years ago, and it’s AN AWESOME, easy to read piece that will teach you the history of money, fiat currencies, precious metals, and the Federal Reserve.

As Robert would say, “Once you understand history, you can accurately predict the future”. Michael’s book will teach you the history in a quick, fun, and easy-to-read manner, so you can see the future.

I visit Michael’s site, www.GoldSilver.com several times a day to comb through the news articles on the home page.

I gave the head of every household in our family a copy of this book for Christmas, so he could take responsibility for his family’s future. (Ironically, not a single one of them has found the time to read it yet).

4: www.BusinessInsider.com. This is the best news site in the world as far as I’m concerned, and the only one I read.

5: Finally, I just found these videos through a friend last week. The information wasn’t new to me, but I think it’s a GREAT resource if you’re brand new to what’s going on. http://www.chrismartenson.com/crashcourse

By the time you watch the entire free video series, you’ll know more about what’s happening, why, and what’s to come in the future, than 99.99% of the world.

So there’s a great “getting started” list for you.

For the most part, they all say the same thing, because as I mentioned before, the outcome of today’s economic events are inevitable.  Anyone seeking the truth, looks at the same events, the same numbers, and sees the same future.

It’s not too late, but the clock is about an hour from midnight. Arming yourself with this knowledge today, will ensure a prosperous and profitable tomorrow.

To your future,

Are Genetically Modified Foods Safe?

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Grandma Judy’s Corner

This report is the most outrageous thing I ever read. You have got to read this and figure out how to protect your family’s health. May I suggest you check out our store at http://shop.ourdayshopping.com and look at the various greenhouses available for you to grow your own food. Some of them are very economical.

Please read this report below from NewsMax.com.

Genetically modified foods have come to your local supermarket, even though most Americans don’t want them and many believe they’re dangerous. A CBS poll found that 53 percent of Americans wouldn’t buy food they knew had been genetically modified. But here’s the rub—there’s no easy way to know which foods contain genetically modified ingredients.

Genetically modified foods are made by inserting genes from another species into a food’s DNA. About 60 to 70 percent of products on grocery store shelves contain at least one genetically engineered element. These foods include corn, strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce, potatoes, soybean, and canola.

Click Here For The Rest of This Report From NewsMax.com Health.

Nothing is better than the food you grow yourself and can. You know what’s in it and you can determine how much sugar and salt goes into the bottled food.

I hope you take this report to heart and find a way to get yourself a garden or an economical greenhouse and start growing and canning your own foods.

Why Haven’t Fruit & Vegetable Eaters Been Told About This Toxic Waste Overload

Posted by: Dr. Mercola

January 16 2010 | 142,373 views

The U.S. government is encouraging farmers to spread a chalky waste from coal-fired power plants on theirgypsum, FGD gypsum, farming, toxic waste, soil fields to loosen and fertilize soil.

The material is produced by power plant “scrubbers” that remove acid-rain-causing sulfur dioxide from plant emissions.

The substance is a synthetic form of the mineral gypsum, and it also contains mercury, arsenic, lead and other heavy metals.

The Environmental Protection Agency says those toxic metals occur in only tiny amounts. But some environmentalists say too little is known about how the material affects crops, and ultimately human health.

Wall Street Journal January 9, 2010

Dr. Mercola’s Comments:

As you may know, coal-fired plants produce about 50 percent of the power in the US, and are a major source of environmental pollution. One of its byproducts is FGD gypsum (flue gas desulfurization gypsum). Not surprisingly, the standard solution is to develop a scheme to sweep the problem under the rug and make money doing it…<<MORE>>

Being Positive In A Negative Economy

Sunday, November 8th, 2009
Written By Judith Sherman

Written By Judith Sherman

Most reports we hear on television right now are negative and about problems with living in our times. It’s negative news on the current government administration, negative news on the state of our economy, negative news on the state of the dollar and it crashing soon, negative news on events going on around the world, and negative news on the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. With all that negativity, how do we find something to be positive about today?

I enjoyed church this week, it inspired me to think more positive about the gloom and doom going on around me, so I thought it would be a good idea to share some of what I learned with you. Take it for what it’s worth to you and apply whatever you feel will help you deal with the negatives in your own life.

The first thing I learned is that how we deal with our circumstances is all about perspective, the way we view events taking place around us. We may choose to live in our own little world and think all is well, we can accept the reality of the world we live in and complain about it, or we can choose to accept things as they are but be positive in our responses to what we see and hear.

The way I see it, we have a choice to be negative or positive about our environment. If we choose to be positive, we may need to change our mindset.  Also, we may need to challenge ourselves to do something that helps us live in the world but not of the world. In other words, we make the choice to be positive. Also, accepting that we are not alone in this world and that there is no need to suffer through it by ourselves gives us a sense of well-being. We have each other, we have our communities on the Internet and at home, and we have a “Father in Heaven”; a being who loves us and will protect us in the safe cocoon that he provides for us.

In this way, we are much like a grove of trees. Trees standing close together catch another when it falls.  Also, trees lean against another until someone comes along to either tether them up to something in order to straighten them or to cut them down.

We can become as a grove of trees. This means we catch each other when someone falls to prevent him or her from toppling over in a life storm or becoming washed away in the torrent.  Also, it means we allow someone to lean on us for awhile until he or she tethers themselves to whatever helps them straighten up and stand again.

As we become more like a grove of trees in a storm, we gather strength from each other. This strengthens us as we fight the challenges we face right now, and helps us weather the brunt of our economic storm. By standing closely with each other, we know we have someone near who understands what we are going through and knows how to help us. This knowledge alone can be very comforting to us.

Think about it, when we put together our resources, our time and talents, our encouragement, and our love, we can accomplish great things that would not normally be accomplished alone.

Our nation is notorious for standing together in a crisis. Remember  9/11, how we came together to help those afflicted by the disaster! It made us stronger as a nation and as a people. For a short time, we forgot about our differences and about politics, we actually came together and supported each other.

I wrote these thoughts after 9/11/2001, regarding the way people responded to the crisis.

You were an inspiration to this country, as you came together from far and wide across this nation; united in purpose and patriotism.

This was shown in the flags you raised and the songs you sang, in the candles you lit, and the prayers you said.

With heads held high and caring arms spread, you hugged each other as tears were shed.

You were a ray of sunshine in the middle of turmoil, and an inspiration when this country was thrust into chaos.

No one did this alone; we did it together! Together we bridged the chasm of grief and despair, and together we face the future.

Although outraged for what happened that day, we must be united in order to be strong.

I saw people come out from all walks of life and all corners of the world to support the people in New York in their time of need. In addition, I saw this nation reach out to other countries in their crisis as well, and many churches contribute food and supplies to people suffering in a disaster.  This is exactly the kind of thing I am talking about; caring for others in our own way and in our own community or online communities.

There are some really hard times in store for us as a nation in the near future. When the dollar crashes, it will cause huge problems for not only America but for other nations  as well.  Our dollar impacts the world and the world impacts us as well.  One of the videos I posted points out that we will be the first to fall victim to over-spending and huge national debt. However, other nations have done the same and will follow the same path as America.  So this is going to be a world-wide problem very shortly. This is why we need to become a grove of trees RIGHT NOW and prepare the best we can to respond appropriately to this type of world crisis.  I suggest you watch some of the videos I have on my vodpod:  Click Here.  Also, you will probably like OhWell-ItsOk.com and FamilyBasics.

We would love to hear from you.  Give us your advice for helping people who are suffering right now from a troubled economy.  This is not just our web site (mine or Terrance’s), it’s yours too. We want you to be part of  our grove of trees.  Please tell us your thoughts, questions, and advice.  Tell us how you handle the economy problems you face and how you have overcome the trials of our times.

Be Part The Solution, Not The Problem

Sunday, November 8th, 2009
Written By Judith Sherman

Written By Judith Sherman

0fmVX9stT

How do we become part of the solution, in these times, without being part of the problem?

What are we doing to be a problem? I suspect that whining and complaining about the challenges we face are both part of the problem and an irritant, especially when we have nothing to contribute or to help improve the situation. What do you think?

Being part of the problem does not help anyone, it just makes things more difficult to handle. Being overly positive about things will only irritate people around us and make them want to scream, so that isn’t being the solution either.

Writing to our Representatives and telling them how mad we are at them will not make them want to do what we want! Telling them that we appreciate what they do for us and that we will be glad to re-elect them if they start voting the way the majority wants won’t work either. While they may appreciate the compliment, threatening them will not influence them to do a thing for us. What we need to do is tell our representatives how we feel about an issue and why we feel the way we do, and then ask them to consider our views when they vote.

I assure you, I had not been that positive when writing to my representatives in the past, but I have changed. Now I consider the stress of their work and the pressure they are under when voting a specific way. I never considered their positions before, because I want what I want and they aren’t giving it to me. Sound familiar?

We can’t changed anything when all we do is complain and offer no answers or suggestions. Although we may have no idea of how to change things we object to, we can at least tell those in power how we feel and ask them what they can do to resolve our concerns.

Problems don’t go away on their own, they get resolved through negotiations or by default. Do we want the problems we face to be resolved through default because no one objected or gave suggestions? I’m one who believes being proactive is more satisfying than letting life happen to us.

For instance, my son was in a Counsel Meeting when he objected to some money being given away to an organization. He mentioned that the money was not theirs to give and that doing so was an abuse of their responsibilities as a counsel member.

After my son finished explaining how he felt about giving away property worth $450,000, he received a standing ovation for his remarks. The Counsel decided to vote against giving away the property to that organization. When the meeting convened, many people came up and thanked him for saying what he did and said they agreed with him.

One person changed the mind of the entire Counsel by opening his mouth and telling them what he thought, along with giving them a good reason for voting against it. He appropriately used his power of persuasion to influence the right decision in the matter. If he had not spoken up, the Counsel would have made a mistake and abused their position of responsibility in representing the people of their city.

On the other hand, my son could have been silent or he could have been insulting and demanding about his position and no one would have listened to him. In fact, they would have probably escorted him from the meeting. In this way, my son became part of the solution instead of a problem.

Let us all find a better way to communicate our wishes to our representatives and use our power of persuasion to influence a change. Perhaps they will accept our position, and perhaps they won’t. All we can do is try. We may never know what affect we have on someone, but for sure, we will have no affect if we keep our mouth shut.

Our representatives need to know that their constituents are paying attention to them and that we will influence their re-election next term. Then they will pay more heed to meeting the needs of those they know are watching them.

Now, do you see how these same principles can apply to your family and social conflicts? Do you see how to use these techniques to improve your concerns in all aspects of your life? Becoming the solution instead of the problem improves life in so many ways.

I would be interested in hearing your stories and how you succeeded in applying these principles. I sure there must be many stories like my son’s. I hope you will share them with us.
